4 Trends TO LOOK OUT FOR IN 2024
What to look out for: Feel good trends of 2024
"Dry January is so last year. In 2024 it’s going to be dry most of the time. I have to admit I do feel better if I don’t fall flat on the floor at a party and it’s certainly not that I have developed a puritanical streak..."
A very Happy New Year from me, Calypso and all of us at The Indytute
1.Saunas are the new pub. The bang-on new way to heat up is by the sea. Beach saunas are popping up all along the coast of Britain. The perfect pick me up when the weather is tricky. Watch the waves, take a dip in the briny, and go with friends. In 2024 it’s sweat that brings you together. From Saltburn to Scarborough, Polzeath to Padstow the new saunas come in all shapes and sizes. Anything from a tent to a horsebox.
Margate has two to choose from. There’s the Sea Scrub Sauna - shaped like a barrel with room for up to eight mates and a perfect view of the golden sands. Enjoy the cold plunge barrel and look out for the winter specials- the menu includes a full moon sauna, so you can look at the sea in a whole new light.
Or if you prefer to see the moon by board check out our moonlit paddleboard experience
2.Now here’s a hot trend that could really tick the boxes with family and friends, and comes from our friends at Coolstays. Elopement weddings. No it doesn’t mean that busloads of couples are scuttling off to Gretna Green, but the casual, minimal wedding is taking over from the ‘can you get a plane to Thailand for the hen night’ kind of a do. Micro weddings are cute, chill and keep the costs down. It also reminds us that weddings really are about very close friends, family and you. After all, what is more romantic than a country cabin?
Nowadays it’s a fight for the view in Santorini and Portofino. They have delegated their hotspots as ‘red zones’; linger too long for your wedding snaps and expect a fine of up to £238! Which certainly would give rise to a niggle on the big day.
Unfortunately this trend came way too late for me.. you can read about my wedding here
3.Dry January is so last year. In 2024 it’s going to be dry most of the time. I have to admit I do feel better if I don’t fall flat on the floor at a party and it’s certainly not that I have developed a puritanical streak. It’s just that alco-free drinks have got a whole lot better with ginger switchels and ‘mocktails’. Mixologists are working overtime to come up with new takes on the classics. Expect simply delicious spicy Margaritas, Gin-free and tonic, virgin this and virgin that. They are so good it seems a pity not to try them, and makes a hangover a distant memory.
4.Dare I say it? Go on, yes I will. Experiences are having a new moment too. We’ve been looking at what you buy and the reviews - I really do read them - and it seems you prefer your outings on the simple side. Forget speed thrills and the daring-do of jumping over waterfalls. What you really, really like is a forage through a forest with a bit of tree hugging thrown in. Teas with a twist, Fish and Sips on a barge or a bit of off-grid camping. The immersive over the complicated. Peace over a head rush. I hear you. I’m on it.
