Hands on beekeeping workshop followed by craft beer tasting in London.
WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
There’s a real buzz to this experience….. not only do you get to wear a beekeeping suit as you learn to handle the frames and search out the Queen Bee, but there is also a tutored craft beer tasting.
Not at the same time. Bees come first.
Urban beekeeping is on the up and up. These hives are set in Kennington Park. This is a forty-five minute introduction to bees. Learn how to inspect and monitor the health of the colony and look at the bi-products of the hive. What you see and do is very much governed by the seasons.
Bees are rather like us, out and about in the summer while preferring to hole up during the winter. The beekeepers are kept busy all year round. It’s never dull, and there is always much to see and do.
Honey is in the news at the moment. Apparently, a lot of the commercial jars we purchase have been ‘cut’ with sugar syrup to bulk out the products, so it is very important to be able to make an informed choice about what kind of honey you are buying. Traceability is key.
And then there’s the beer…now’s the time to relax over a tutored beer tasting. As this experience has bees at the heart, and is run by Hiver Beers, it is to be expected that they make honey beer. They only use British ingredients and suppliers. The beer is fermented with raw honey, and this is all about tasting the difference.
Honey and beer. What’s not to love?
