So, how do you get from pip to pint? This workshop is a hands-on cider-making class. The process hasn’t changed much in the last 350 years, and now you can learn how to ferment your own at home.
WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
This is very much a hands-on workshop. You’ll be prepping, pressing, and producing your own cider. Concoct your creation while an expert host takes you through the history of cider and how the industry works today. There will be a tutored cider tasting, so you can decide which style is for you… there are more types than you think. Hard or soft? Still or sparkling?
There are approximately 500 cider makers, and as the drink increases in popularity, so do the producers. This is your chance to become a cider maker for the day. Weigh, wash, chop, and press, but that really is just the starting point. You will need to learn how to finish your recipe and manage the fermentation process. Fermentation will take place once you are back home—up to this point, you are merely making apple juice.
TELL ME MORE
You will be filling (and leaving with) a demijohn of juice. There will be talk on sweetening as you start to understand the spectrum of flavours within the different styles. This all takes place in the Hiver Taproom. This is not a working cidery, but by making cider here, it demonstrates that you don’t need an industrial space to create the magic. It really should inspire you to carry on making cider in a similar setting back at home.
There will be snacks, and you will get a vital ‘how-to’ guide, so you can flavour your ferment and be able to make delicious homemade cider again and again… pip, pip!
