Think wild garlic, asparagus, shellfish and berries, all waiting for you to discover as you cycle along the Kent coast.
This is a proper day out. One with purpose. A day of foraging. It all takes place near Deal, Kent, the garden of England, a county where you will be more than happy to learn how to live off the land.
This is a seasonal experience, as you will eat and learn about all the different wild foods growing on the beaches and in the hedgerows. Think wild garlic, asparagus, shellfish and berries, all waiting for you to discover - by bike.
WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Yes, you will be bicycling along the Kent coast, from the ancient Smuggler’s highway to sun drenched beach paths overlooked by the White Cliffs. The circuit is 3 to 6 miles with stops on the way for plant identification and food gathering. You will of course be stopping to enjoy a really delicious foraged picnic, with unique food and flavours. Botanical cocktails and herb teas are a feature, and the ‘Wild Kitchen’ team is led by Lucia Stuart, a French restaurateur, who is your expert guide and chef on this totally unique tour.
The food is frankly delicious, and it’s not surprising, Lucia has been foraging for 30 years and in 2011 published a book ‘Eating Flowers’. Go in a day or make a weekend of it. Kent is a fabulous county easily reached by train from London in just over an hour. The bike tour lasts 5-7 hours, and you will take back information to amuse and feed you for a lifetime.
