A brilliant independent cinema. This building has seen life. It is stunning, a local landmark, and that's before you settle in to watch the movie.
WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
First opened in 1911, 'The Kursaal' was a roller skating rink, with live music and a theatre. Later in the same year, a small cinema was unveiled showing silent movies, accompanied by the building's owner, one Carl Seebold, a Swiss impresario from Zurich, a maestro on the piano. This proved a rollicking success; the roller rink was abandoned and converted into a 560-seat art-deco auditorium.
The Dome is a Grade II listed building. It is a stunning Edwardian venue, just the sort of place that makes you fall in love with the cinema. A proper night out.
There are now 3 screens, fitted with Dolby 7.1 sound throughout. Screen 3 is a particular favourite, complete with velvet sofa seats and wall-to-wall projection.
TELL ME MORE
This experience is for 2 standard screenings. It also *includes* a bottle of Prosecco and bottomless popcorn.
The cinema is right on the seafront, and looks fabulous. It has survived two world wars and numerous attempts by the council to knock it down. Thank goodness it prevailed. Carl Seebold's vision has carried on. An independent cinema still fulfilling his mission to entertain.
Have a drink at the Projectionist's bar before the film, and suck in the atmosphere.
If you build it, they will come…
