Design a tote bag in this linocut print workshop. From its natural cotton state to a studio-designed statement piece—you just gave the humble tote bag a makeover.
WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Learn how to use a linocut for practical design purposes. This workshop shows you how to design and carve a lino block, then demonstrates how you can use the blocks to decorate fabrics. Using a cotton tote bag as your sample, you will learn how to transform the ordinary into a statement piece. This is a perfect workshop for beginners, as you can explore your creative side and take home the results.
TELL ME MORE?
This workshop lasts for 3 hours and is run by artist and printmaker Rachel Evans, the talent behind Little Lion Studios. The classes are kept small—maximum ten people—so there’s lots of individual attention to help you on your way. Once you have completed one bag, you will have acquired the skill to continue printing on cloth. Napkins, tablecloths, T-shirts—you've opened your eyes to the fascinating world of print.
Anyone who thinks that linocut is an unsophisticated art form should think again. It is one of the most flexible art forms. Start simple, and you can create more complex designs as you gain experience—and, of course, you can make multiple prints from just one block.
Turn the everyday into an art piece—in fact why not frame it ?
