Tarot cards are the inspiration for this linocut workshop, or rather the designs, and why not? Tarot images are distinctive and lend themselves to artistic interpretation.
WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
You won’t be using wood, but lino, to cut and design your own tarot. The designs started as woodcuts in the 17th century—now you are going to create a linocut and make tarot card prints.
Using original cards for inspiration, and under the expert guidance of printmaker and artist Rachel Evans, you will spend three hours designing a unique card. Follow your intuition and learn how to burnish by hand, with a variety of Japanese and Western papers to choose from.
Burnish, you ask? It basically means making the paper smoother to create a glossy surface by rubbing. There’s more to tarot card design than you thought!
TELL ME MORE?
These are small classes, so you will receive lots of individual attention from Rachel, who is passionate about passing on her knowledge of printmaking. You will be able to carry on printing at home, and of course, you’ll have the workshop prints to take home. The cards will provide the inspiration—how you read them is down to you. It’s in your hands.
