Bottle your own garden in this terrarium workshop—a miniature oasis to keep at home.
WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Houseplants love terrariums. A glass bottle creates the ideal microclimate to keep a plant happy. They are also ideal for anyone who thinks they haven’t got green fingers. You don’t have to worry about watering (well, maybe a few drops every now and then); the plants will be happy just to do their own thing. In fact, they may be too happy. You are more likely to find yourself cutting them back. This is definitely low-maintenance gardening and also rather chic. A terrarium looks lovely wherever you place it. From bathroom to bedroom, they add a welcome touch of nature.

This workshop takes place at Ella’s garden studio in South Manchester. You will be instructed every step of the way, as you learn how to place your plants and how to layer up the substrates and soil. This is a new skill and one you can definitely do back at home. Once you have acquired the techniques, no jar will be safe.
Terrariums came into their own in Victorian times, when miniature greenhouses were filled with ferns. The 1970s houseplant revolution reinvented the genre, and the most popular jars were so large they had to be placed on the floor.
At the end of this class, you will have a very modern bottle garden planted up and ready to take home. A living memory of your botanical experience.
